Who we are
The Counselling Institute operates this learning platform. The responsible party for the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) is The Counselling Institute. Our information officer can be reached at the contact address shown on our website.
What we collect
Your name, email address and a securely scrambled form of your password. While you learn we record your enrolments, lesson progress, reflections you write, quiz and assessment results, practice choices and order requests. We keep a security log of sign-in and account events, including your IP address.
Why we use it
To run your account, give you access to courses you enrol in, show your progress, issue a completion record, keep the platform secure and help you if something goes wrong. We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.
Who sees it
Authorised administrators can see learner details, progress and reflections where needed to run the service. Our hosting provider stores the data on our behalf. Email is sent through our hosting provider. We do not share your information with others unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
While your account is active and for as long as needed afterwards to keep proper records. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.
Your rights
You may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete it. From your account page you can download your data and request deletion. You may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Keeping it safe
Passwords are stored in scrambled form, forms are protected against forgery, repeated failed sign-ins are slowed down and administrator actions are logged. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you promptly if a breach affects you.

Reflections are for your own learning. Please do not write identifying details about other people in them.
